I copied the program and the backup it made () to the game folder ('Silent Hunter 3 - GWX'). I copied the sh3.exe program from this folder to the 4GB patch folder and ran the patch program as administrator. I backup up sh3.exe in the 'Silent Hunter 3 - GWX' folder to 'sh3.exe - 2 -before applying 4 GB patch' before I ran this. I tried to start a single mission and the program crashed probably just before it would have launched. I tried copying the 'ARB WideGui 1920x1080' folder to the MODS folder and I believe the update loaded. This update includes some UI settings which I believe I can change, instructions in that thread. This is because I have the Steam version. To run 'TychoSh3Patch_v3.bat' I need to run 'H.Sie fixes' first per. * I do wonder if that first folder needs to be in the MODS folder, the Wolfpack345 video JSGME shows it in his. Following the instructions with the mod download I copied these folders into the 'C:\Games\SilentHunter3\Silent Hunter 3 - GWX' folder: 'ARB WideGui 1920x1080' and 'TychoSh3Patch_v3'. Like the instructions recommend I made a backup copy of the program file and named it 'sh3.exe - 1 - before ARB WideGui'.ġ. I'm going to do this in the 'SilentHunterIII with GWX 3.0' folder of course. I recall other people saying GWX can crash when they start a mission.Ħ. I tested by opening the Museum and I started a career and started the first mission with no problem. I started the game with the shortcut and it looks like it loaded fine. I updated the shortcut's compatibility mode to XP SP3, beware though because I recall somewhere that another mod requires XP SP2. It did create a 'SilentHunterIII with GWX 3.0' icon on my Desktop. After several minutes the install completed and closed when I clicked Finish. Selected the GWX install, 'C:\Games\SilentHunter3\Silent Hunter 3 - GWX'. When I clicked save the current save folder was changed to my new one which I'm sure is normal.Ĥ. The program reported that that current save folder is 'My Documents\SH3'. I ran the program and changed the save folder name to 'GW1'. I copied MultiSH3.exe to the 'Silent Hunter 3 - GWX' folder and started it.Ģ. The original installation ('Silent Hunter 3') will be the backup.ġ. This creates a new functioning copy of the program which I'll use. It created a 'JSMGME' shortcut on my Desktop. I did this and named the new folder 'Silent Hunter 3 - GWX'. The instructions for this program (the ReadMe.html) says if you plan on using JSGME first install it and then copy the folder. I didn't see a running process for Steam.Ĭonclusion: it's possible I don't need to start Steam before playing, I did have to do this on my first install but maybe if I just tried to start it a second time it would have worked.Īt this point the webpage I'm using suggested using MultiSH3 to create backups of the installation I just did. Looked the same as the first time it ran so I think things are good. Test #2: ran again and this time it started. Test #1: run sh3.exe with Steam not running and no changes, result: sh3.exe in processes but game didn't start. * Testing - I decided to test the program in its noew location I got a notice saying do not start STEAM using its icon again and to instead usw the new path: C:\Games\SilentHunter3\Silent Hunter 3 I ran it again (the only thing I changed is I set the SFSF.exe to run as administrator - this in addition to running as admin) and it worked. The first time I ran it the program failed. This site has some additional advice which I followed: The webpage has instructions but I also made sure Steam wasn't running at the time of the install, as advise here: It advertises the S3F mod which I don't want. The program isn't installed, it's just run. I created this folder to output to: C:\Games\SilentHunter3 * I saw the the game version (found bottom right) is 1.4. I saw the the Steam forum that you can kill the task and try to restart again and that worked. When it started a dialog popped up which closed before I had a chance to look at it. I saw it was a running process (sh3.exe) which I assume is SH. * I started it through Steam and the start button changed to Stop but the game didn't start. Started it and took a few screenshots so I can know it starts OK and I can get an idea what the base game looks like. The idea is to install SH3 normally and use SFSF to copy the installation to an alternate location where it will be updated and run from. Originally posted by author:INSTALLING SH3 FROM STEAM
